Physical Education
with Coach Daspit
and Assistant Dustin Helmkamp
Coach Matt Daspit
and his assistant Dustin Helmkamp work with students twice a week in
their physical education classes. Coach Daspit stresses the
importance of overall good health through exercise and nutrition.
In class, students are encouraged to stay active by participating in fun
activities that also promote teamwork and good sportsmanship. The
key components of Daspit's fitness program are muscular strength, aerobic
capacity, and flexibility. Kindergarten thru 2nd grade focus on
locomotor skills such as walking, running, skipping, throwing, and
catching. While 3rd grade thru 5th grade students perform more
advanced skills that often involve team sports or group activities.
This year the 5th
grade boys and girls will have the opportunity to play on intramural
team sports before school, such as touch football and basketball.
Last spring, Coach
Daspit organized the George Elementary 5K Fun Run and raised more than
$1,000 for the P.E. Department. |
